Exporting the "Pudong Programme"! Pudong Maritime Safety Check-up for Pathfinder-1
Date:2024-04-15 Readers:
Recently, BYD "Pathfinder 1", the first ro-ro ship built by a domestic shipyard and specially used for the export of domestic automobiles, successfully completed its maiden voyage to Europe and berthed at the port of Shanghai for the first time. In order to ensure the safety of new energy car sea transport, Pudong Maritime Safety Bureau took the initiative to provide services in front of the ship, exported "Pudong programme", carried out a "safety check-up" for the ship, and helped China's new energy cars to cross the oceans and export overseas.

It is reported that BYD "Pathfinder 1" as China's largest new energy car company "BYD" exported to overseas markets, the first ship operation, marking the "national car from the transport" era officially opened. The ship has an overall length of 199.9 metres. With an overall length of 199.9 metres, a beam of 38 metres and a loading capacity of 7,000 cars, the ship uses green and clean liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel as the main fuel for the main engine and generator. As an environmentally friendly car carrier, it opens up a green channel for the export of Chinese electric cars.

In order to help enterprises to investigate the safety risks and accidents of maritime transport, to ensure the smooth export of China's new energy vehicles, Pudong Maritime Bureau Ship Safety Inspection Center for the ship's situation, the organization coordinated dnv (Det Norske Veritas) surveyor, combined with the ship's unique dual-fuel system and vehicle lashing fastening requirements for the development of a targeted "physical examination programme The ship's surveyor from Norske Veritas, in combination with the ship's unique dual-fuel system and vehicle tie-down requirements, made a targeted "medical check-up programme" for the ship so that the inspection could be targeted.

At the same time, due to the new energy vehicle transport specification requirements there are still some gaps, Pudong Maritime and Classification Society from the existing policies, industry norms and other different perspectives, to guide the ship to do a good job in the declaration of goods and related equipment maintenance work. New energy vehicle batteries have the risk of spontaneous combustion, once burned will cause a chain reaction, the consequences are unimaginable. In order to improve the ship's fire risk prevention and control ability, Pudong Maritime asked the crew to simulate an emergency disposal drill based on the company's own system requirements for fire emergencies during the ship's vehicle transport. Combined with the results of the exercise, to give the ship guidance to further optimise the operation of the ship's safety management system.

"Now the new energy electric car sea momentum is strong, its maritime transport safety has become the focus of the maritime authorities and shipping companies, for such a new industry, our services should also keep up." Shen Keqi, deputy director of the Pudong Maritime Administration's Ship Safety Inspection Centre.

Pudong Maritime Bureau said that the next step will continue to pay close attention to new energy vehicles transport industry, the development of new business, take the initiative to integrate into the pattern of local economic development, do a good job of new energy vehicles shipping export safety supervision and service protection, escorting the Made in China to the world.
