Evergreen Marine orders 6 methanol dual-fuel feeder containers at Huangpu Wenchong
Date:2024-05-08 Readers:
Evergreen Marine has placed an order with Huangpu Wenchong for six 2,400 TEU methanol dual-fuel feeder containers, which are expected to be delivered from the second half of 2026, according to a report by Denmark's MB Shipbrokers.

It was previously reported that Evergreen Marine had formulated a plan to build a series of feeder containers a year ago, and formally started bidding at the beginning of March this year. Huangpu Wenchong, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), eventually took the order worth US$320 million. This also means that Evergreen Marine has invested upwards of $10 billion in newbuilding since 2021.

MB Shipbrokers said, "While confirmed orders in the second quarter look quite slow, sentiment (willingness to place orders) has really improved over the past 1-2 months as some projects have progressed."

Meanwhile, analysts expect container deliveries to hit another record in 2024, exceeding 3.1 million TEU. however, the current supply-demand balance is expected to remain in place as liner companies are forced to deploy more ships to maintain weekly services under the ongoing Red Sea crisis, leading to high demand for vessel capacity.

According to Alphaliner's latest data, in the world's top 100 liner shipping company capacity, Evergreen Marine ranked 7th in the world, operating 220 ships, of which 132 owned ships, 88 chartered ships, with a total capacity of 1,680,000 TEUs. In addition, Evergreen Marine also holds 64 newbuilding orders, totalling 748,000 TEUs.
