SC Ports posted volume boost at inland ports
Date:2024-05-09 Readers:

SC Ports has handled 216,410 TEU in March, up 12 per cent year on year, as well as 118,481 pier containers, up 11 per cent from the previous year.

The significant container volume boost points to signs of economic strength and a strong market, according to the port authority, reports London's Port Technology.

SC Ports president and CEO, Barbara Melvin, said: "The US east coast is in high demand for cargo routings, and our strategic location in the booming Southeast positions us well for long-term growth. South Carolina Ports offers highly productive, capable and reliable port service to our customers."

SC Ports reported that inland Ports Greer and Dillon transported a total of 18,978 containers in March, up eight per cent from the previous year.

Rail movements at Inland Port Greer increased by 22 per cent YoY, with the crew handling 16,088 containers loaded with commodities for advanced manufacturers, solar panel manufacturers, material producers, and merchants.

Said Ms Melvin: "Our inland ports are performing exceedingly well as we move more cargo by rail than ever before. The ongoing expansion of Inland Port Greer will provide more capacity and rail capabilities to swiftly move goods between the Port of Charleston and inland markets.

"As South Carolina s economy thrives, we are investing in modernising our terminals, expanding cargo capacity and building the rail-served Navy Base Intermodal Facility to ensure excellent port service to the businesses that depend on us for efficient port operations."

In March, SC Ports announced that loaded import TEU climbed by 11 per cent from February 2023, indicating economic development.
