On the morning of 5 July, with the smooth completion and departure of the vessel "COSCO Neptune", the cumulative throughput of COSCO Shipping Port Abu Dhabi Terminal exceeded 5 million TEUs.
COSCO Shipping Port Abu Dhabi Terminal is located in Abu Dhabi Khalifa Port, operated by a joint venture between COSCO Shipping Port and Abu Dhabi Port Authority. It was opened in December 2018, with a designed annual handling capacity of 2.5 million TEUs. The terminal currently operates more than 20 international routes connecting more than 60 ports.
Chen Yuping, general manager of COSCO Shipping Ports Abu Dhabi Terminal Co Ltd, said that as an important project of Sino-Arab cooperation, COSCO Shipping Ports Abu Dhabi Terminal has played an active role in making Khalifa Port one of the top 50 ports in the world. In the first six months of this year, the terminal achieved a year-on-year throughput growth of more than 35 per cent. In the future, the terminal will endeavour to build a smart port - upgrading port automation facilities and sustaining green and low-carbon emission reduction - to contribute to the China-Arab cooperation in building the "Belt and Road".
Mohammed Blaikie, Deputy General Manager of the terminal and representative of Abu Dhabi Ports Authority, said that COSCO Shipping Ports Abu Dhabi Terminal's cumulative achievement of 5 million TEUs of throughput is a milestone in the terminal's operation, reflecting the joint efforts of the Arab and Chinese sides.
In the future, COSCO Shipping Port Abu Dhabi Terminal will continue to play its role as a key overseas node of the global supply chain, promote the construction of the Middle East hub port, and commit itself to building an intelligent port, upgrading the port automation facilities and sustaining the green and low-carbon emission reduction, so as to make contributions to the China-Arab co-operation in building the "Belt and Road".
