A leakage occurred during refuelling of a container ship in Hong Kong!
Date:2024-08-26 Readers:
According to the Hong Kong 01 website, on 21 August, a large area of oil pollution appeared on the sea surface off Kwai Chung Container Terminal, which is suspected to be an oil leakage from a vessel. As seen from the photos circulated on the net, the oil pollution covered the sea surface opposite to Piers No. 4, No. 6 and No. 7, and part of it has drifted towards Tsing Yi and Stonecutters Island.

The Hong Kong Marine Department (MD) responded that it received a report at around 10pm on the 20th that a spillage had occurred during the refuelling of a container vessel berthed at Kwai Chung Container Terminal (KCCT). The MD immediately dispatched officers to the scene to investigate and arranged for a contractor to arrive at the scene to clean up the incident in real time. The MD is following up the incident and will continue to closely monitor the sea situation and take appropriate measures to control the pollution.

After investigation, the incident took place when the barge ‘YEE LEE 2’ operated by the bunker supplier Bunker Express Company Ltd was engaged in a bunkering operation with the container vessel ‘TS Kobe’.

According to COSCO SEACO's ShipSight data, the bunkering operation on the TS Kobe started at 0218 BST on 20 August and ended at 0300 BST on 21 August.
