‘BYD ships are coming! GSCI Docked Two Car Carriers in a Row
Date:2024-09-24 Readers:
On 21 September, the 7,000-vehicle LNG dual-fuel car carrier (PCTC) No. 2 and the 7,000-vehicle dual-fuel car carrier (PCTC) No. 1 built for BYD (Hong Kong) Limited by Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI), a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Group (CSG), were successfully discharged from the dock.

CITIC Jin Leasing 7,000-vehicle dual-fuel PCTC No.2

This vessel is the second vessel in a series of three newbuilding vessels ordered under CITIC Jin Leasing's operating lease mode, of which No.1 was completed and delivered on September 5. On September 20, GSIC held a docking ceremony for the vessel, which was attended by the shipowner, China Classification Society (CCS) and the relevant personnel of GSIC's project team, who also signed the docking documents.

The ship has an overall length of 199.9 metres, a beam of 38 metres, a depth of 14.8 metres, a design draught of 8.6 metres, a speed of 19 knots, and a total of 12 vehicle decks, which can be used for loading and transporting sedans, vans, heavy-duty trucks and other types of cars, as well as part of the hazardous cargoes and new energy vehicles, and is a new generation of large-scale green car carriers.

This series of vessels is an exemplary work of ‘strong co-operation’ with GSCI and COSCO Shipping Special Transportation by the relevant parties adhering to the concept of ‘first-class shipbuilding + first-class charterer + first-class gold lease’.

BYD 7000 Vehicle Dual Fuel PCTC No. 1

On 20 September, the docking ceremony was held for the first fabricated 7,000-vehicle dual-fuel automobile ro-ro ship built by GSIC for BYD (Hong Kong) Co. Representatives from BYD, Intercontinental Marine Consultants, DNV Classification Society and China Classification Society attended the ceremony, and the project managers of BYD, DNV Classification Society and GSIC signed the relevant progress documents on behalf of the three parties.

BYD 7000 car dual-fuel car carrier is a series of car carriers ‘Green Low Carbon Upgrade 2.0’ under construction by GSIC, with an overall yard of 199.9 metres, a beam of 38 metres, a design draught of 9 metres, a design speed of 18.5 knots, and a capacity of 7000 cars, which can satisfy the requirements for loading of fuel oil cars and electric cars. It adopts natural gas (LNG)/fuel oil dual-fuel propulsion system, equipped with domestic battery system, permanent magnet holding shaft-type axle generator, which meets the requirements of DNV ammonia (ready) class notation, and also adopts various energy-saving measures such as LNG BOG recondensation, energy-saving devices, drag-reducing anti-fouling paint, etc., which is a green, intelligent, environmentally friendly and highly efficient automobile transport vessel.

The planned construction of two vessels of this series is a good beginning of the cooperation between Chinese automobile manufacturing giants and world-class shipbuilding enterprises, and is also another model for both parties to fully rely on the strengths and advantages of their respective fields to promote the synergistic development of the economy of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area, which reflects the mission and responsibility of the two parties to join hands in responding to the call for building a strong transport and shipping country, and to assist in the ‘National Shipbuilding and National Transportation’. It reflects the mission and responsibility of both parties to respond to the call for building a strong transport and shipping nation and to help ‘national ships and vehicles’.
