Date:2024-09-30 Readers:

On September 26, Hudong-Zhonghua (Group) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Hudong-Zhonghua"), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), named and delivered the third 174,000 cubic meter large liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier "Kongtong" for the second phase of COSCO SHIPPING's PetroChina State LNG transportation project.

This is the sixth large LNG carrier delivered by Hudong-Zhonghua after the first phase of the project "Shaolin", "Wudang" and "Kunlun", and the second phase of the project "Emei" and "Huashan". So far, a total of 6 ships in the first and second phases of the project named after the six major schools of Chinese martial arts have all been delivered.

Ms. Mu Xiuping, the guest of honor for the naming of the new ship, named the "Kongtong" and cut the cable, Weng Hongbing, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and general manager of Hudongzhonghua, Zhu Jinjian, managing director of COSCO Shipping Energy, and Wu Junli, executive director and secretary of the Party Committee of PetroChina, delivered speeches.

Mr. Zhu Wenjin, Deputy General Manager of PetroChina, Mr. Qin Jiong, Deputy General Manager of COSCO SHIPPING Energy, Mr. Shi Xingtai, Operation Manager of Lloyd's Register of Shipping in Greater China, Mr. Guo Jianjun, Deputy General Manager of CCS Shanghai Branch, and Mr. Qian Bo, Technical Manager of GTT China, attended the naming ceremony. Chi Benbin, deputy general manager of Hudong-Zhonghua, signed the delivery text, and He Jianghua, chief builder of LNG, presided over the naming ceremony of the new ship and the signing ceremony of delivery.

"Kongtong" is the world's mainstream large-scale LNG carrier, independently developed and designed by Hudong-Zhonghua, with complete intellectual property rights. With a total length of 295 meters, a width of 45 meters, a depth of 26.25 meters and a speed of 19.5 knots, the vessel is classified by Lloyd's Register (LR) and China Classification Society (CCS). The ship adopts the world's latest generation of dual-fuel low-speed propulsion power system, equipped with advanced environmental protection devices, daily fuel consumption is less than 100 tons, and emissions in gas or fuel mode can meet the most stringent standards of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), with low evaporation rate, low energy consumption, high environmental protection, strong versatility, excellent economy and many other characteristics, especially its ship-to-shore compatibility is good, the route adaptability is flexible, reliable berthing at most of the world's land shore stations, and it also has the function of ship-to-ship sea berthing and transportation.

In the construction of the "Shaolin", Hudong-Zhonghua realized the refueling and commissioning of related equipment for the first time in the terminal construction stage; "Wudang" set the shortest docking period for LNG ships; After optimizing the construction technology, the "Kunlun" achieved the fastest installation record of the cargo tank enclosure system platform; "Emei" was named and delivered 9 months ahead of schedule; The "Huashan" set the world's fastest record of 4.5 days for the "two-in-one" sea trial, and the "Kongtong" set a new record for the shortest dock period of 6 months.

With the support of the LNG ship capacity doubling strategy, the construction of large LNG carriers in Hudong-Zhonghua has been continuously accelerated. In September this year alone, 2 ships were delivered, 3 ships were started, and 1 ship was undocked, and 20 ships are currently under construction at the same time. On September 30, it is planned to deliver one more ship, when Hudong-Zhonghua will set a new record for China's shipbuilding industry to deliver three large LNG carriers in one month.
