YANGPU Port in Hainan province, China, is launching a new service to Thailand and Vietnam, jointly operated with CMA CGM and COSCO Shipping Container Lines.
The two carriers will deploy three 4,250 TEU container ships, connecting the ports of Shanghai, Ningbo, Laem Chabang, Haiphong and Yangpu on weekly basis, according to UK's Seatrade Maritime News.
This new service will promote the trading business between Yangpu and Southeast Asia regions, providing a highly efficient and convenient shipping channel for several types of products.
Since the release of the plan for the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port in 2020, Hainan has made numerous achievements progressing towards its aim of becoming an international shipping hub for the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, part of China's Belt and Road Initiative.
In the first three quarters this year, Yangpu port posted 47.46 million tonnes of cargo throughput and 1.45 million TEU in container volume, an increase of 8.48 per cent and 7.25 per cent, respectively.
