| Black Sea boxes back, up 12pc to 1.3 million TEU |

BLACK SEA container terminals in Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine handled 1,313,392 TEU in 2024, up 12 per cent year on year, reports Fort Lauderdale's Maritime Executive.
This only covers laden container imported and exported by sea, since waterborne container traffic in Ukraine is about 30 per cent of the total.
The total increase achieved by these three countries for the period was 12 per cent compared to the same period last year and comprised 1,015,563 TEU.
During this period, 54 per cent of full containers handled were imported, with 46 per cent of the volume being exported. It is estimated that laden containers share was 77 per cent and empty containers share was 23 per cent.
Import volumes to the aforementioned countries increased by 21 per cent compared to 2023. The highest import volume increase was shown by Ukraine - 154 per cent. In Romania there was an increase of 22 per cent, while in Bulgaria there was an increase of four per cent.
Exports from these countries increased by three per cent, mainly because of Ukrainian and Bulgarian export volume growth of 47 per cent and five per cent respectively. There was a slight decrease of laden export volume in Romania - three per cent.
