CYPRUS, China and EU officials will join shipping executives at the 'Shaping the Future of Shipping Summit' in Athens on June 11, reports the Cyprus Mail.
Co-hosted by Greece's Maritime Ministry, the International Chamber of Shipping, and the Union of Greek Shipowners, the event will address global shipping challenges.
Confirmed speakers include Cyprus Minister Alexis Vafiades, EU Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas, and China's Vice Transport Minister Fu Xuyin.
The agenda covers geopolitical conflict, supply chain disruption, and shipping's economic role, with a focus on cooperation and policy alignment.
UGS President Melina Travlos stressed shipping's status as a "common good" and warned that service continuity and long-term sustainability are at risk.
ICS chairman Emanuele Grimaldi said global maritime pressures demand industry-government cooperation, with decarbonisation and regulatory transitions on the table.
The event will also discuss GHG pricing, MEPC83 outcomes, and the Clean Energy Marine Hubs initiative, continuing ICS's push for practical solutions.
