London-based Riviera Maritime Media reports that Evangelos Marinakis-led Capital Group has added two more container vessels to its growing orderbook in South Korea.
On 24 July, Hyundai Mipo announced a contract for two 2,800-TEU ships worth US$114M. Though the buyer was unnamed, market sources linked the deal to Capital Group, citing prior contracts and an early Q3 2027 delivery timeline.
The newbuildings are believed to be options from earlier agreements. Capital's 2025 campaign includes six vessels over 8,000 TEU and 14 smaller units, all contracted with HD Hyundai.
Alphaliner data shows Capital already operates nine 1,800-TEU and four 2,800-TEU vessels from Hyundai Mipo. The company has focused exclusively on South Korean yards this year, also ordering LNG carriers and VLCCs.
Greek owners have ramped up container ship investments, placing 33 orders in H1 2025-nearly double the previous year. Container vessels were the only segment to post global year-on-year growth.
Early delivery slots at Asian yards have boosted interest in mid-size and feeder vessels. Other Greek firms like Latsco Shipping and Chartworld Shipping are also pursuing newbuilds in Korea and China.
