CMA CGM will register ten 24,212-TEU LNG dual-fueled ships under the French flag starting next year, reinforcing its commitment to France's maritime sector, reported the UK's Seatrade Maritime News.
Chairman and CEO Rodolphe Saade said the vessels-among the largest in the world-will be crewed by 135 French seafarers and developed in partnership with the French Maritime Academy (ENSM). Each ship will be named after a French monument or landmark.
The ships will operate under French law, serving Le Havre and Dunkirk on the Asia-Northern Europe route. CMA CGM said the move strengthens its presence in France as maritime transport gains strategic importance globally.
The LNG dual-fueled vessels are compatible with biomethane and e-methane, which can cut CO2 emissions by 67 per cent and 85 per cent respectively. They also reduce sulphur oxides, fine particles and nitrogen oxides.
Deliveries will begin in 2026, with the vessels deployed on CMA CGM's flagship French Asia Line (FAL 1), connecting Northern Europe to Asia with regular French port calls.
