Cape Shipping returns to tanker market with 10-vessel fleet
Date:2025-12-16 Readers:
Greek owner Cape Shipping has confirmed its comeback in the tanker sector, unveiling a 10-vessel fleet of mostly newbuildings after years focused on bulk carriers and containerships, reports London's Riviera Maritime Media.

The Andrianopoulos family-led company updated its website to show the tankers, either delivered or under construction, all being built at Chinese yards. Riviera had earlier reported on the first tanker delivery in September, marking the start of the expansion.

The investment programme covers two MR tankers, four Aframaxes, two Suezmaxes and two LR1s. The MR pair, built in 2024 and 2025, came via a resale deal with Evalend Shipping, while the other eight were ordered directly by Cape Shipping between 2023 and 2024.

Two Aframaxes were scheduled for delivery this year from Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, part of CSSC, with another pair due in 2026 from CSSC's Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. The two Suezmaxes are also set for delivery in 2026 from SWS, while the LR1 duo is expected in 2027 from Yangzijiang Shipbuilding.

Founded in Athens in 1987, Cape Shipping has traditionally specialised in dry bulk before diversifying into containerships. Its current fleet includes seven bulk carriers built between 2006 and 2012 and seven container vessels delivered between 2015 and 2021.

The company has also been linked to an order for two 3,100-TEU containerships at China's New Dayang Shipbuilding, with deliveries expected from Q2 2028. Meanwhile, Cape Shipping has been selling off container vessels, with CMA CGM among the main buyers.
