Invited by Shanghai International Shipping Institute (SISI), Dr. Kim Hak-So, President of the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI), led a team of 13 people from KMI, visited the new campus of Shanghai Maritime University on November 8, 2010. They are warmly welcomed by Prof. Huang Youfang, Deputy Director of Shanghai International Shipping Institute and Vice President of Shanghai Maritime University (SMU). The two sides exchanged ideas on bilateral cooperation.

KMI is a government research institute under the Office for Government Policy Coordination in Korea. Established in 1997, it specializes in policy research in maritime affairs and fisheries and has a great impact on South Korean government's policy making in related areas. On December 15, 2009, Shanghai International Shipping Institute and Korea Maritime Institute signed a 5-year cooperation agreement. Since then the two sides conducted a series of academic exchanges.

Prof. Huang Youfang expressed a warm welcome to Dr. Kim Hak-So and his colleagues. Zhang Jieshu, SISI’s Office Director, introduced academic exchanges SISI and KMI had carried out over the past year since the cooperation agreement was signed. Prof. Huang Youfang and Dr. Kim Hak-So exchanged views on deeper and more extensive cooperation between the two sides, laying out the framework for future cooperation.
Prof. Huang Youfang accompanied Dr. Kim Hak-So and his colleagues in their visit of SMU’s new campus. Dr. Kim, a renowned expert on logistics and ports in South Korea, was appointed visiting professor at SMU. He then gave an enlightening speech entitled China and South Korea Logistics Cooperation Program to an audience of nearly 200 students. |
