Hong Kong moves 3.2% more containers in August

    Hong Kong: Container traffic at the port of Hong Kong increased in August both year-on-year and month-on-month.

    Hong Kong registered container throughput of 2.16m teu last month, up 3.2% compared to 2.1m teu in August 2010, according to statistics from the local authority.

    The figure was also up compared to 2.13m teu seen in July this year.

    In the first eight months of this year, Hong Kong recorded 16.15m teu of container throughput, a 3.7% increase from 15.58m teu handled in the same period of last year.

    The East Asian port moved 23.7m teu of containers in 2010, making it the third busiest container port in the world.
