South Africa's Transnet picks Konecranes for Johannesburg box depot
Date:2011-05-04 Readers:

SOUTH AFRICA's Transnet Capital Projects, a conglomerate combining national rail, ports and pipeline interests, has ordered three railway Konecranes gantries for Johannesburg's City Deep Terminal (CDT).

CDT is Transnet's largest inland container depot in South Africa, serving Johannesburg and Pretoria. Most containers are moved from Durban by rail and the cranes will be used for intermodal transfers to trucks.

The new cranes will lift 41 tonnes and have a lifting height of 11.5 metres and a span of 22.5 metres.

In 2009, the Finnish company acquired Dynamic Crane Systems, thereby giving it an operating presence in the country for the first time, reported London's Containerisation International, adding that the cranes will be delivered next year.
