SOUTHWEST China's Chongqing plans to become one of the major hubs for agricultural produce and cold chain logistics on upper Yangtze River and will raise the total capacity of its reefer sheds to 700,000 tonnes by 2015, Xinhua reports.
The Chongqing government has approved a plan to accelerate this development of the city's agri-cold chain logistics. According to the plan, by 2015, Chongqing's average cold storage capacity per person will be 21 kilogrammes. The percentage of cold chain services, including transport and warehousing for fruit and vegetables will be 20 per cent, 30 per cent for meat and 37 per cent for aqua products.
The proportion allotted to each for cold chain transport will be 46 per cent for fruit and vegetables, 52 per cent for meat and 65 per cent for aqua products.
