Jul.16--HONG KONG's orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has posted a 6.7 per cent growth to 1.34 million TEU in second quarter compared to the same period last year, attributable to a 10.6 per cent rise in revenues to US$1.56 billion.

Loadable capacity increased 7.3 per cent in the second quarter, but the overall load factor was 0.5 per cent lower than the same period in 2011, the company said in a filing to the Hong Kong stock exchange. Overall average revenue per TEU was up 3.7 per cent from the same period last year.

For the first six month of the year, total volumes grew 6.1 per cent year on year and total revenues increased 5 per cent. Additionally, loadable capacity rose 9.8 per cent, but the overall load factor shrank 2.6 per cent, while overall average revenue per TEU fell one per cent against the same period of 2011.

All major individual trade lanes saw revenue growth in the second quarter year on year. The transpacific trade lane gained seven per cent to $516 million; Asia-Europe trade lane saw the largest 15.2 per cent revenue increase to $327 million; transatlantic trade posted a 2.2 per cent growth to $168 million, and intra-Asia/Australasian lanes had a 14.4 per cent rise to $549 million.

In regard to second-quarter liftings, only Asia-Europe volumes saw a slight decrease of 0.4 per cent year on year to 223,743 TEU. All other three main trade lanes recorded high single-digit growth, with the transpacific volume up 7.9 per cent to 325,729 TEU year on year, transatlantic volume growing nine per cent to 105,153 TEU, and intra-Asia/Australasian volume rising 8.2 per cent to 687,996 TEU.
