Secretary-General Zhen Hong of Shanghai International Shipping Institute (SISI) received an exclusive interview by Financial Times Deutschland on March 31, 2011, expressing his views on the characteristics, competitive strategies and development trends of Asian ports.

According to Mr. Zhen Hong, several global top-ranking container ports are all Asian ones. To investigate the reason, Asia has become the center of the world economy, and the export-oriented economy urges it to form a huge volume of foreign trade, thus driving the development of shipping industry. Meanwhile, the water-water transit cargo flow among Asian ports also helps the ports increase their throughput. He believed that, with the transformation of China’s economy and the changes in logistic development pattern, the continuously rapid growth of ports during these years will slow down.\
