As scheduled, the Preparatory Meeting of the 1st SISI Council was held at the large conference room of SISI Building 2 at about 14:00 on June 25, 2009. organizations participating in the meeting included Shanghai Municipal Transport and Port Authority, Shanghai Maritime University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade, Shanghai Customs College, Hohai University, China Shipping (Group) Company, COSCO Container Lines Co., Ltd., Sinotrans Eastern Co., Ltd., China Ports & Harbors Association, Shanghai Shipping Exchange, Shanghai Shipowners' Association, Shanghai International Freight Forwarders Association, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Shanghai Urban Construction and Communications Commission, Hongkou District People's Government, Shanghai Combination Port Commission, and Shanghai Jinjiang Shipping Co., Ltd. etc.

Chaired by President Yu Shicheng of Shanghai Maritime University, the meeting commenced with Secretary-General Zhen Hong introducing the preparation progress for SISI and discussing the main contents of Statute of Shanghai International Shipping Institute; followed by a detailed explanation of the agenda of the formal Council meeting on June 29. Then, President Yu Shicheng introduced SISI's leadership and members of the Expert Committee as well as the membership charges to all participants.

At the final stage of the meeting, representatives from China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company, Hongkou District People's Government, Shanghai Urban Construction and Communications Commission, Shanghai Shipowners' Association and other organizations delivered passionate speeches and participated in active discussions, giving full recognition to the meeting for its contents and ideas.
