On June 23, 2010, “Seminar on Shanghai International Maritime Arbitration” organized by China Maritime Arbitration Commission Shanghai Branch and Shanghai International Shipping Institute (SISI) was held in the Human Resource Development Center of Shanghai Lujiazui Financial City at No. 168, Longhui Road, Pudong New Area of Shanghai. Party Secretary and Deputy Secretary-General Li Gang delivered a welcome speech on behalf of SISI.
The seminar invited Mr. Bruce Harris, the former Chairman of London Maritime Arbitrators Association and senior maritime arbitrator, and Mr. Philip Yang, Chairman of Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration Group, to introduce the theory and practice of maritime arbitration in London and Hong Kong as well as the comparison between Chinese and British maritime arbitrations. The seminar also held activities to simulate maritime arbitration. The convening of the seminar is of practical significance to China’s shipping enterprises in learning the theory and practice of maritime arbitration from London and Hong Kong, and safeguarding their immediate interests when dealing with maritime disputes. The seminar received wide welcome from upwards of 100 participants.
