The 1st Meeting of the 1st SISI Council was successfully held at SISI on the afternoon of June 29, 2009. The participants included Qian Yongchang, Chairman of China Communications and Transportation Association (former Minister of Transport); Song Dexing, Director of the Department of Water Transport under the Ministry of Transport, as well as leaders from Hongkou District People's Government and other related committees, offices and bureaus of Shanghai Government.

At the meeting, the Council passed the Statute of Shanghai International Shipping Institute, elected the governing body of the Council, and determined the operating organization of SISI and its Expert Committee. Qian Yongchang was elected as the Honorary Chairman of the Council, President Li Shaode of China Shipping (Group) Company as the Chairman of the 1st Council, President Yu Shicheng of Shanghai Maritime University as the Director of SISI, President Ma Shuo of World Maritime University as the Director of the Expert Committee, and Professor Zhen Hong of Shanghai Maritime University as the Secretary-General of SISI. Subsequently, the Council members discussed and passed the 2009-2010 work plan of SISI.

The convocation of the current Council meeting marked the basic establishment of the organizational structure of SISI. SISI will continue to improve three main functions of "decision-making consultation, information dissemination and personnel services" in the future, in order to provide intellectual supports for the construction of Shanghai International Shipping Center.

Statute of Shanghai International Shipping Institute Was Passed and Core Members of the Council Were Determined

After nearly a year of preparation, the 1st Meeting of the 1st SISI Council was held at SISI Lecture Hall at 14:30 on June 29, 2009. The participants included Qian Yongchang, Chairman of China Communications and Transportation Association (former Minister of Transport); Song Dexing, Director of the Department of Water Transport under the Ministry of Transport; as well as leaders from Hongkou District People's Government and other related committees, offices and bureaus of Shanghai Government.

Yu Shicheng, President of Shanghai Maritime University and Director of SISI, reported on the preparatory progress of SISI. The Council passed the Statute of Shanghai International Shipping Institute, stipulating in details the organizational structure, asset management and business operation, etc. of the Council. It was made clear that SISI implements open management, encouraging participations of governments, enterprises, universities, research institutions, trade associations and international organizations.

The meeting defined the governing body of the Council and appointed core staff of SISI. The Port Development Institute, Cruise Economy Institute, Shipping Services Institute and Shipping Policy and Law Institute were also inaugurated at the meeting. Director Ma Shuo of SISI Export Committee, Honorary Chairman Qian Yongchang, Chairman Li Shaode, as well as leaders from Hongkou District People’s Government, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, the Department of Water Transport under the Ministry of Transport (or Shanghai Combination Port Commission), Shanghai Urban Construction and Communications Commission, and China Ports & Harbors Association addressed the meeting. The meeting was rounded off in a warm atmosphere.

Nearly 100 representatives and guests from 82 Council members attended the meeting. The successful convocation of the 1st Council meeting marked the basic establishment of the organizational structure of SISI.
