China plans to build $162bn underground metro
Date:2011-11-10 Readers:

China is planning to invest $162bn to build an underground metro rail connecting 28 cities. Under the plan, China is planning to lay a network that will be 250 times the length of the London Underground's Circle line over the next ten years.

Currently, 12 Chinese cities have underground networks and the new metros will be built in smaller cities such as Taiyuan, Urumqi and Shijiazhuang.

China's National Development and Reform Commission, which prepares plans for the country, has approved more than 90 lines, according to The Telegraph.

Other smaller cities such as Dali, Haikou, Zhuzhou and Luoyang, are also planning to submit plans to build metro lines.
