Hong Kong box throughput up 7% in Q2

    In the second quarter of 2011, the port of Hong Kong handled 6.4 million TEUs of containers, up seven percent over a year earlier, according to the Census and Statistics Department, reported Xinhua.

    In the first half of 2011, the port of Hong Kong handled 11.9 million TEUs of containers, up four percent over the same period in 2010.

    On a seasonally adjusted quarter-to-quarter comparison, laden container throughput increased by eight percent in the second quarter of 2011. Within this total, inward and outward laden containers rose by 11 percent and five percent respectively.
