Date:2011-06-16 Readers:

ASIA Airfreight Terminal (AAT) has announced a year-on-year decline of seven per cent in its throughput to 59,633 tonnes in May.

Export cargo fell 13 per cent year on year to 40,037 tonnes, while import cargo rose three per cent year on year to 18,064 tonnes. Besides, transshipment cargo volume soared 173 per cent to 1,533 tonnes compared to the same period last year.

Cumulative exports from January to May came in at 194,301 tonnes, up two per cent year on year. Total imports for first five months increased 10 per cent to 85,492 tonnes year on year and transshipment cargo volume was 4,212 tonnes, up 117 per cent year on year.

"Oil prices and Japan's earthquake had caused some uncertainties in the market, but the negative impact should diminish as the situation stabilises," said AAT corporate development chief Kenneth Yeung.
