AIR Canada's 3,800 sales and service agents walked off the job across the country, but the airline said its aircraft will continue to fly.
The strike is the first for Air Canada in nearly 13 years since its pilots disrupted operations in 1998.
But more strikes are expected, said Newark's Journal of Commerce, because other unions, including the 3,000-member Air Canada Pilots Association, have opposed pension proposals.
The recently re-elected conservative government said it may introduce a back to work legislation entitled "An Act to Provide for the Resumption and Continuation of Air Service Operations".
