Hong Kong's No 2 ground handler, AAT, ups tonnage 12pc in March

    HONG KONG's No 2 ground handler, Asia Airfreight Terminal Co Ltd (AAT), has announced its March throughput hit 63,271 tonnes, an increase of 12 per cent year on year.


    Export cargo registered 45,137 tonnes, a growth of 11 per cent. Import cargo volume for March was up 11 per cent to 17,440 tonnes. Transshipment volume came to 693 tonnes, up 83 per cent against the corresponding figure in 2010.


    Cumulative export tonnage from January to March 2011 was 113,520 tonnes, representing a 13 per cent increase year on year. Total import tonnage for first quarter increased 13 per cent compared against the same period last year to 50,659 tonnes. Transshipments came to 1,915 tonnes from the beginning of the year, up a 102 per cent.


    Said AAT corporate development general manager Nelson Lee: "AAT has recorded a good growth in the first quarter of 2011, nevertheless, we are aware of the challenges ahead."
