German express delivery giant DHL has executed a daring assignment for England's Oxford University Press (OUP) to deliver two million textbooks to 3,000 widely dispersed jungle primary schools in Papua New Guinea.

Four thousand identical sets of texts under 62 titles had to be moved by sea and then over land through the jungle. Safe delivery was made possible though DHL's waterproofing system in special 10 foot containers to reach the most hard to reach destinations.

The first shipment of the textbooks departed from the Shenzhen-Yantian China Oxford Hub on January 22, sailing through the Papua New Guinea Port of LAE and Port Moresby through to the delivery points at the 21 provincial officers the Papua New Guinea's Department of Education. The delivery was completed in three weeks, well ahead of the two to three months first allotted.

"We are pleased to partner with OUP and contribute to Papua New Guinea's national effort in revamping their curriculum. With our extensive global network and logistics capabilities, we were able to deliver the textbooks for the children's education and ensure they receive the best quality resources on time," said DHL Global Forwarding vice president for Asia Pacific Garrick Pold in a company statement.

Oxford University Press supply chain manager Malcolm Fairbrother said its five-year relationship with DHL and with Papua New Guinea National Department of Education made for "an extremely meaningful undertaking".
