DHL to build three US$84 million Sydney distribution centres
Date:2011-04-14 Readers:

DHL Supply Chain Australia is investing A$80 million (US$83.85 million) in the development of three new distribution centres in Sydney's western suburbs that are scheduled to become operational by the middle of this year and employ 120 staff.

The distribution centres will occupy an area measuring 55,000 square metres and form part of a new dedicated logistics area which will also comprise a transport hub on "campus." The sites are to be used as the base of Australian operations.

"We've experienced significant growth in our transport business," said Terry Ryan, senior vice president, south Pacific. He said that factor coupled with the company winning new business and renewing its Johnson & Johnson Pacific contract for a further five years "prompted us to start developing the new facilities to adequately prepare for growth we expect in 2011."

The company's transport hub will occupy around 10,000 square metres of the campus and will be responsible for managing the consolidation of outbound freight from Sydney and inbound shipments for onwards distribution within Sydney, a statement said.
