JAPANESE electronics giant Sony is considering a longer summer shutdown to save energy in the current crisis in the aftermath of natural disasters that took the lives of 27,000 over the last month.
 

    Sony said it will likely extend leave over the peak energy summer months and is considering having workers turn up early to maximise daylight use, reports London's Containerisation International.
 

    The global supply chain is said to be at breaking point as many overseas manufacturers that rely on Japanese parts have been forced into shorter working hours.
 

    The Tokyo-based company has energy-saving targets and has now been asked to reduce consumption by the government. This comes at a time of an export order backlog and demands to increase production.
