DHL starts LCL services from El Salvador to Asia Pacific
Date:2011-04-26 Readers:

GERMAN express delivery giant DHL has announced the start of a less-than-container load (LCL) service connecting El Salvador to Hong Kong and other markets in the north and south of the Asia Pacific region in a bid to reduce transit times.

This development attempts to capitalise on the agreements El Salvador established last with Taiwan and Japan in the framework of the Forum of East Asia-Latin America Cooperation in Tokyo. It also opened diplomatic relations with Vietnam and Cambodia, a statement from the logistics giant said.

The new route from San Salvador to Hong Kong has a 29-day transit time, while transit times to China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea in North Asia Pacific have transit times ranging from 29 to 46 days. Whereas the transit times to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Cambodia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand in South Asia Pacific ranges from 39 to 59 days.

"With El Salvador being one of the most populated countries and fastest-growing economies, as well as its strategic location as the gateway between North and South America, we see tremendous potential in this part of the world," said Kelvin Leung, chief executive officer, DHL Global Forwarding, north Asia Pacific.
