CHINA has announced a plan to build the world's largest and fastest rail system by increasing the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway velocity to 380 kilometres per hour by 2012, reported Xinhua.

China has the world's fastest high-speed rail system with the Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway, the Wuhan-Guangzhou High-Speed Railway, the Zhengzhou-Xian High-Speed Railway and Shanghai-Nanning section of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail network, the Ministry of Railways told reporters, adding that high-speed Japanese and French trains do not achieve such speeds, moving only at 250 kph while Chinese trains today can move at 350 kph.
