CSPI Became an Important Indicator in Monitoring Water Transport Economy
Date:2010-04-22 Readers:

On April 22, 2010, the Ministry of Transport released Water Economic Operation Analysis Report for 1Q10. The report analyzed China’s development of water transport economy in the first quarter and presented outlooks for the second quarter. The China Shipping Prosperity Index (CSPI), compiled by Shanghai International Shipping Institute (SISI), has been quoted and analyzed as an important reference by the Ministry of Transport due to its timeliness and accuracy.

Based on the research results of SISI, the report indicated a continuously improved operational performance among port and shipping enterprises. The shipping prosperity speeded up at a steady pace in the first quarter. China Shipping Prosperity Index reached 113.8 points, up 9.2 points over last period and still at the thriving interval. The prosperity indices of shipping transport, port, and shipping service enterprises were higher than last period. China Shipping Confidence Index stepped from the depressing interval into the thriving interval.

According to the report, in spite of a continued rise in shipping prosperity, it will still take some time for shipping enterprises to improve their profitability. The shipping market is expected to usher in an improved performance at large. It is estimated that China Shipping Prosperity Index will record 113.90 points in the second quarter, staying still at the thriving interval and showing promising signs.
