On the afternoon of July 22, 2011, Shanghai Sheraton Hotel in Hongkou District witnessed a simple and grand opening ceremony in celebration of the establishment of “World Maritime University Shanghai Office” (WMU Shanghai Office). Yu Shicheng, Director of Shanghai International Shipping Institute (SISI) and President of Shanghai Maritime University, and Jin Yongxing, Vice President of Shanghai Maritime University attended the ceremony and expressed warm congratulations to the establishment of WMU Shanghai Office.
    In his congratulatory speech, President Yu highly valued the strategic move for World Maritime University to set up its representative office in Shanghai, and hoped that both universities will further strengthen mutual cooperation in research, education and other fields.

    President Bjorn Kjerfve of World Maritime University, Director Ju Chengzhi of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Transport, Deputy Director Yin Jie of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, and Secretary Sun Weiguo of Hongkou District People’s Government unveiled the representative office. Altogether 100 people were present at the opening ceremony, including representatives from China Classification Society, China Shipping (Group) Company, COSCO Container Liners Co., Ltd., and Shanghai Shipping Exchange etc., as well as WMU Shanghai alumni.
