The "Shipping & Logistics Development Forum 2010 – Thoughts and Countermeasures against the Financial Crisis" was held successfully at New Century Hotel Shanghai on January 28, 2010. Jointly organized by Shanghai Hongkou District People's Government, SISI and Shanghai Jingfeng Management Consulting Co., Ltd., co-organized by Shanghai Shipping Exchange and studios of Development Strategy Institute under Shanghai Innovative Research Base of Social Sciences, operated by Shanghai Jingfeng Management Consulting Co., Ltd. and supported by China Shipping Development Co., Ltd. Tanker Company, the Forum featured presence of over 100 elites, experts and scholars from the industry.
Ying Mingyong, Deputy District Mayor of Shanghai Hongkou District People's Government, and Huang Youfang, Vice President of Shanghai Maritime University (SMU), came all the way to address the forum. The morning session was chaired by Prof. Cai Cunqiang, Vice President of SMU, while the afternoon session by Prof. Qu Linchi, President of Economics and Management College of SMU. Their humorous and appropriate comments won praise from participants.

At the forum, the Shipping Development Institute (SDI), co-founded by SISI and COSCO Container Lines Co., Ltd. (COSCON) was inaugurated by COSCON General Manager Mr. Sun Jiakang and SMU Vice President Prof. Huang Youfang. Mr. Ying Mingyong, Deputy District Mayor of Shanghai Hongkou District People's Government, witnessed the ceremony. In the capacity of SDI Director, Sun Jiakang issued letters of appointment to more than 10 experts from the industry and related research institutions.

COSCON General Manager and SDI Director Sun Jiakang delivered a keynote speech themed "Thoughts and Business Strategies of Ship Companies towards the Financial Crisis". According to Sun, in the post-financial crisis era, the development of global economy and trade features slow recovery among developed economies, leading momentums among emerging markets leading, increasingly stronger trade protectionism, and strengthened regional cooperation, etc.. In such a context, ship companies are suggested to take seven business strategies, i.e., carrying out win-win cooperation, implementing risk prevention and cost control, lowering speed and reducing emissions, improving comprehensive transport capacity, actively promoting freight rate rebound, and enhancing the development of emerging markets and domestic trade markets. His brilliant speech received warm applause.

Wonderful speeches were also received from Ding Yi, Deputy Director of Shanghai North Shipping Service Cluster Construction & Development Office; Hua Min, Director of the Institute of World Economy of Fudan University; Luo Wenping, Professor of Shanghai Maritime University; Li Gang, Deputy Secretary-General of SISI; John Tang, General Manager of Lloyd’s Logistics Limited; and Cai Guorong, a veteran of the industry. They made in-depth analyses on world economy, shipping markets and logistics operation, etc., striking a chord among participating representatives and evoking profound thinking.
