On December 8, 2010, the “High-level Roundtable Forum on Port Development  2010 – Future Strategic Transformation of Port Development” jointly organized by Shanghai Maritime University and World Maritime University, and operated by Shanghai International Shipping Institute (SISI) was successfully held in Shanghai. Nearly 80 senior leaders and experts from domestic and foreign port-related governmental departments, port industry and academia, conducted in-depth analyses expressed respective views on future strategic transformation of port development.

As a great success, the Forum received favorable comments from the port and shipping industry, and pointed out the direction for the future development of China’s economy, transport sector and port industry. From the perspective of governments and enterprises, the Forum analyzed the trends, modes and ways for the future development of ports, shared experience of advanced ports, and put forward suggestions for the development of ports during the period of the 12th Five-year Plan.
The Forum attracted widespread attentions from domestic and foreign media. Nearly 100 websites reported or forwarded the new concepts and thoughts heard from the Forum on port development. Eight domestic mainstream online media, including Xinhuanet, People’s Daily Online, Drcnet, China.org.cn, Sohu Financial Online, Netease Financial Online and 21cbh.com, issued detailed reports on the Forum. The Hong Kong Ta Kung Pao also expressed interests in the Forum and presented an in-depth and extensive report. Meanwhile, upwards of 30 professional websites specializing in port and logistics included Chinaports.org, TheChoice, Un56.com, International Maritime Information Website, China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing, ShippingChina, Xd56b.com, 56888.net, Hexun.com, Shipping Online, and Snet.com.cn., paid close attention to the Forum and made in-depth reports. The Forum was also covered by an additional 10-odd websites of governmental departments.

The convening of the “High-level Roundtable Forum on Port Development 2010” has undoubtedly opened a new chapter for the strategic transformation of China’s ports, and brought new concepts and thoughts to the port and shipping industry.
