On March 27, 2009, he First Shipping Logistics Salon & Inauguration Ceremony of SISI Modern Logistics Institute was held at SISI, featuring presence of Ying Mingyong, Deputy District Mayor of Hongkou District People's Government; Wang Mingzhi, Director of the Shanghai Combination Port Commission; Li Hougui, President of Shanghai Logistics Society; Huang Youfang, Vice President of Shanghai Maritime University; Lu Qingdong, Director of Hongkou District Investment Promotion Office (Office of Shipping Services); Chen Zhen, Secretary-General of Shanghai Logistics Society; and other middle- and senior-level managers, experts and scholars from the shipping and logistics industries.

Accompanied by Vice President Huang Youfang and President Li Hougui, Deputy District Mayor Ying Mingyong and Director Wang Mingzhi inaugurated the Modern Logistics Institute. Director Lu Qingdong delivered a speech, extending warm congratulations to SISI for the establishment of Modern Logistics Institute.

Jointly organized by SISI and Hongkou District People's Government, and operated by SISI Modern Logistics Institute, this Shipping Logistics Salon strived to explore ways for the shipping logistics industry to tide over crises and improve logistics values. It also provided a platform for participating enterprises to meet and exchange with each other, jointly discuss ways to interpret and take advantage of national plans on reviving the logistics industry, transform crises into business opportunities and promote a healthy development of the shipping logistics industry.

At the Salon, Dr. Wang Mingzhi, Director of the Shanghai Combination Port Commission, delivered a speech themed "Several Thoughts on Promoting the Construction of Shanghai International Shipping Center"; followed by the speech themed " Interpretation of National Plans on Reviving the Logistics Industry" from Dr. Huang Youfang, Vice President of Shanghai Maritime University, Chairman of the Logistics Teaching Advisory Board of Institutions of Higher Learning under the Ministry of Education, special international consultant of UNCTAD/WTO International Trade Center (ITC); Chairman of the Academic Committee of Northeast Asia Logistics Society; Vice President of China Society of Logistics and China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing, as well as Director of the Engineering Research Center of Container Supply Chain Technology of the Ministry of Education under Shanghai Maritime University. After the speeches, the participating experts and businessmen expressed their own views on the keynote speeches and were involved in warm discussions. The Salon attracted a number of well-known enterprises and public institutions in the shipping logistics industry, such as COSCO Logistics, China Shipping Logstics and Sinotrans, as well as internationally renowned institutions such as the Rotterdam Commercial Representative Office, Zim Integrated Shipping Services and Daewoo Logistics, etc. Logistics enterprises in Shanghai and the surrounding areas also actively took part in the Salon.
