Along with the further opening-up of China's shipping service trade, the shipping brokerage industry is facing new challenges and development opportunities. As a part of the environmental construction of Shanghai International Shipping Center, China's first Ship Broker’s Club emerged in this context.
On the morning of December 9, the Ship Broker’s Club was inaugurated at the conference center on the first floor of SISI. Led by SISI, the Inauguration Meeting was jointly initiated by nine globally influential organizations including shipbrokers, insurance brokers, charter brokers, China's only ship fund management company, and famous maritime law firms. The present members of the Club include, among others, Chinica Shipbroking, China Ship Fund, Arrow Asia Shipbrokers Ltd., Shanghai JoinOcean Shipbroker Ltd., Marsh (Hong Kong) Limited, SG&CO, Greathorse Group, Simpson Spence & Young Shanghai Co., Ltd., and Seamaster Chartering Limited.
The Club initiators organized discussions and votes on the "Articles of Association (Draft)" and elected the leadership members of the association. According to Liu Xunliang, responsible person for the preparatory working group of the association, the Ship Broker’s Club will lead its members to create a high-end brand of shipping service cluster, and strive to work out one or two practical solutions to such key issues as the development of shipping insurance under the supports of government departments and the industry.
Vice President Huang Youfang of Shanghai Maritime University, Director Lu Qingdong of Shanghai North Shipping Service Cluster Construction & Development Office in Hongkou district, SISI Secretary-General Zhen Hong and other leaders attended and addressed the meeting. Vice President Huang Youfang set the development missions and goals for the Club. According to him, through industry standardization, academic exchanges and vocational trainings, the Ship Broker’s Club will gradually help its members establish credit and credibility on international shipping markets and build up a widely-recognized authority across the industry, so as to contribute to the development of a fair, just, open, easy and broker-friendly market environment as well as the cultivation of a large number of professional, law-abiding and credible shipping brokers.
At last, Huang Youfang and Lu Qingdong declared the official establishment of the Ship Broker’s Club.
