International Waterway Shipping and Logistics Forum co-hosted by SISI was held successfully

International Waterway Shipping and Logistics Forum and Logistics Investment Signing Ceremony (hereinafter referred to as “the Forum”) was held at Hilton Nanjing on the afternoon of July 11, 2012. The Forum was co-sponsored by Nanjing organizing Committee of China Maritime Day and Shanghai Maritime University, and co-hosted by Nanjing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform, Nanjing Municipal Transport Bureau and Shanghai International Shipping Institute. The forum is an important part of China Maritime Day.


Welcome speeches were delivered by Xu Zuyuan, Vice Minister of Transport, Shi Heping, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province.

Song Dexing, Director of Department of Water Transport of Ministry of Transport, spoke on the topic - “Joint Efforts to Propel the Healthy and Sustained Development of China’s Ocean Shipping”. Through an analysis on the current situation of domestic ocean shipping industry and the supporting policies issued by the Ministry, he made a proposal as to accelerate the restructuring, transform the development model and promote the healthy development of the industry.

Prof. Yu Shicheng, Party Chief of Shanghai Maritime University, made a six-point proposal as guidance for the construction of the Center of Nanjing Port based on his studies on the opportunities and challenges facing the logistics services of the port, with emphases placed on the infrastructures, multi-modal transport, logistics park, industrial cluster, logistics information application and supporting services.

Over 300 officials and distinguished guests attended the Forum, including Song Dexing, Director General of Department of Water Transport of Ministry of Transport, Hu Pingxian, Executive Vice Director of organizing Committee of China Maritime Day, Yu Shicheng, Party Chief of Shanghai Maritime University, Lu Zhipeng, Under Secretary General of Jiangsu Provincial Government, You Qingzhong, Director of Transport Department of Jiangsu Province, domestic and foreign experts and scholars, as well as deputies from famous port logistics enterprises at home and abroad, from relevant ports in Nanjing and Jiangsu Province as a whole, from research institutes and intermediary organizations, from the signatories of the logistics projects, from municipal, district and county governments of Nanjing and from the development zone (industrial park).

At the forum

At the Forum, discussions and researches were made on the development of the Center, the international shipping industry, port transformation and modern shipping service industry, and analyses conducted on the characteristics, trends, opportunities and challenges of the shipping and logistics industry. Witnessed by leaders and experts from home and abroad, eleven large logistics enterprises executed with the development zone (industrial park) an investment agreement of RMB 10.9 billion.
