On the morning of 18th April, the world's first highly intelligent tugboat "Jin Gang Ship 36" and the pilot vessel "Jin Gang Ship 37", which are equipped with the function of autonomous companion sailing, were officially put into operation in Tianjin Port. The research and development of the autonomous companion sailing system relies on the National Key Research and Development Plan - China, Finland intergovernmental scientific and technological cooperation project, and fully realises the project's expected targets, with 90% of the key hardware involved domestically produced, and 100% of the core algorithms and software, such as perception, regulation and control, and human-computer interaction, being independently researched and developed. This is the Tianjin Port Group to speed up the construction of intelligent port, joint China Classification Society, scientific research universities, shipbuilders and other project research and development units, in the port of tugboat intelligent technological innovation and application of a major breakthrough with a milestone.

During the test period, the intelligent tug "Jin Gang Ship 36", with the co-operation of the accompanying vessel "Jin Gang Ship 37", carried out a total of 34 tests in four categories for the autonomous companion sailing system in terms of functional safety, perception performance, control performance and verification of the whole process of autonomous companion sailing, as follows. The system hardware runs stably and reliably; the safety mechanism is complete and effective; the target perception is accurate and tracking is stable; the regulation and control is accurate without overshooting and has strong adaptability; the man-machine interaction software is stable and easy to use with a friendly interface, and the expected indexes have been comprehensively verified.
