SINGAPORE-based independent common carrier X-Press Feeders has once again chosen Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS), a part of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), to build four 11,000 TEU ships fuelled by methanol, reports Rotterdam's Offshore Energy.
The shipbuilding contract for these vessels was formally signed between SWS and X-Press Feeders in Shanghai on May 29.
These 11,000 TEU vessels represent a new generation of medium-sized ships, designed by SWS independently to meet growing environmental concerns and market demands.
These ships can carry 11,000 TEU and are equipped with scrubbers, windshields, and various energy-saving and drag-reduction technologies.
These features are expected to enhance speed, conserve fuel, and significantly reduce carbon emissions.
Additionally, on the same day, SWS held a naming and delivery ceremony for X-Press Pyxis, the final vessel in the 7,000-TEU series, which was constructed in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading.
