At the beginning of this month, the Polish government announced a new development plan for the Szczecin -? Winouj? Cie port, which is reportedly the largest project investment in the port in 75 years.
It is reported that the plan plans to invest about 2.3 billion US dollars to build a large deep-water container terminal in the Baltic Sea near Germany, aiming to develop it into a regional cargo distribution hub radiating inland and surrounding countries.
According to the new facility development budget, the Szczecin -? Winouj? Cie Port Authority will bear a construction cost of $405 million, and the Polish government has promised to invest $1.9 billion in land consolidation and waterway upgrades, including deepening the 70 kilometer port access channel, constructing a new harbor basin, and related onshore infrastructure. In addition, the project requires the addition of 186 hectares of land and the dredging of 19 million tons of seabed sediment. It is planned to commence construction in 2027 and be completed in 2029.
According to the plan, the Deepwater Container Terminal? Winouj? Cie of Sh č evin Uyghe Port, after completion, will have an annual designed processing capacity of 2 million TEUs. It will be equipped with a 17 meter deep entrance channel, a 2900 meter long dock shoreline, and a 70 kilometer long entrance channel that can accommodate ships up to 400 meters in length.
At the same time, the Szczecin Sivino Uygice Port will have the ability to dock the world's largest container ships, becoming Poland's second deep-water container hub after Gda? Sk Port, and further strengthening the connection between Central and Eastern Europe and global trade.
This project is an important part of Poland's ongoing efforts to expand port facilities in the region. Outside the deepwater terminal, the project will improve the handling facilities for bulk cargo and plan to construct a large-scale offshore wind power industry transfer area.
To support this new port facility, the Polish government is simultaneously planning to build a new road and railway system, aiming to build a connectivity network with the Central European region, covering countries such as Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, and Hungary. In addition, the project aims to create a "green port" and will adopt zero emission transit technology and shore power supply system.
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Poland Arkadiusz Marchewka We have developed a new development concept for the port of Szczecin Sivino Ujiche from scratch, as the previous plan had flaws, lacked funding support, and was lagging behind. At the same time, we will create the 'Pomeranian Angle' project, which is not only the most ambitious project in the 75 year history of the Szczecin Sivino Ujiche Port Authority, but also one of the most eye-catching investment projects in the Baltic region. The deep-water container terminal will be the core of this large-scale project, but not the only component. "
Arkadiusz Marchewka Furthermore, the world's largest container ship will dock at the port, bringing decades of stable income to Poland's finances. This investment will enhance Poland's security capabilities and increase its influence in the maritime sector.
