On November 21, 2011, Shanghai International Shipping Institute (SISI), as the host, and its Shipping Policy and Law Institute, as the organizer, witnessed the convocation of Shipping Finance and Law Forum 2011 at SISI’s conference center.
The objective of the forum is to exchange view on the shipping finance products and related legal issues, build a platform for research on shipping finance home and abroad, and to promote the construction of Shanghai International Shipping and Finance Center.
Prof. Zhen Hong, Secretary General of Shanghai International Shipping Institute, gave a welcome speech, which declared the opening of the forum. Mr. Zhou Yang from Pudong Financial Services Bureau introduced three challenges facing Pudong in its financial area construction and corresponding solutions. Ms. Ding Yi from North Bund Shipping Service Cluster Construction and Development Office, shared with the audience the latest development of North Bund shipping service industry.
Later on, Mr. Shen Mantang from China Shipping Group Company, Tom Budgett from Spectrum Capital, Paul Li from Berwin Leighton Paisner LLP, Mr. Shen Qiuming, Deputy Director of Shipping Policy and Law Institute of SISI, and Peter Murray from Ince & Co., shared their observations from different angles concerning shipping and finance construction. Topics touched upon include the effect of International Economic situation on current shipping market, development of tools in international ship finance, legal and structural issues for the development of Chinese leasing tools, the role of law in the construction of international shipping and finance center.
The forum is another platform provided by SISI in promoting the exchanges of professionals in the shipping and finance industry. We look forward to more breakthroughs and progress achieved by Shanghai in its construction of international shipping and finance center. |
