After the successful convening of the 1st Advanced Training for Port Administrators of the Department of Water Transport of the Ministry of Transport in Shanghai in June, the 2nd Advanced Training was held and rounded off in Shanghai from October 11 to 14, 2011. organized by the Department of Water Transport of the Ministry of Transport, operated by Shanghai Maritime University, and implemented by Shanghai International Shipping Institute (SISI), the Training was divided into 6 teaching sessions on a half-day basis, including Administrative Practice and Experience of the Port of Shanghai by Deputy Director Zhu Jianhua of Shanghai Municipal Transport and Port Authority; Port Laws, Regulations and Practice by Division Chief Li Bing of Laws and Regulations of Shanghai Municipal Transport and Port Authority; Development and Transformation of Modern Ports by Zhen Hong, Professor of Shanghai Maritime University and Secretary-General of SISI; Innovation in Port Operation and Management by Tao Huifu, former Deputy General Manager of Operation Business Department of Shanghai International Port (Group) Co., Ltd. and current Chief Scheduling Officer and Senior Adviser of the Group; Port Planning and Construction Management by Pu Weiqing, Deputy Chief Engineer and Senior Professor of CCCC Third Harbor Consultants Co., Ltd.; and Domestic and International Port Administration System and Practice by Researcher Mao Boke (division level) of Research Office of Shanghai Municipal Transport and Port Authority. Altogether 56 trainees from domestic ports, shipping departments and related enterprises participated in the training and visited Shanghai Yangshan Deep-water Port to better integrate theories and practices. Being attached great importance by leaders from the Department of Water Transport of the Ministry of Transport, Shanghai Maritime University and SISI, trainees received a welcome speech from Vice President Cai Cunqiang of Shanghai Maritime University specially appointed by the Department of Water Transport. Upon completion of the training, SISI issued certificates recognized by the Ministry of Transport to the trainees.
During the entire training, each lecturer imparted profound knowledge related to the field of their long-term research and practice in an easy-to-understand way. The whole process focused on the combination of theories and practices and the convergence of objectives and measures, having achieved good training results. Trainees expressed that, through this training, they had learnt new knowledge and development trend of port management theories and practices, and improved their abilities in actual operations. Moreover, the field visit helped deepen their perceptions of various topics, which would be beneficial to their future work. As demonstrated in the feedback one week after the training, the quality of training lectures and service received high recognition from the majority of trainees; many expected such courses to be continued next year, and some suggested higher and more characteristic training courses in the future. Some trainees even expressed their wishes to appoint SISI to organize annual special trainings for their organizations.
In the future, SISI will continue to update and uplift the professional theory and practical skills of port administrative departments and production enterprises through such trainings. Meanwhile, SISI will also strive to improve its brand awareness and influence in the industry by relying on its advantageous teaching team and good conference service.
